Historical Documents
The Harris County District Clerk’s Office has begun the process of preserving its historical documents. These documents date back
to the 1830s and can provide insight into the history of Texas.
Preserved documents are available for public viewing in the District Clerk’s Historic Document Room. If you would like
to view a specific historic document, call 713-755-9463 or send a request to historicalreadingroom@hcdistrictclerk.com
24 hours in advance and staff will pull the document for you. Requests should include full names of parties and approximate years
filed. Patrons can request copies of historical documents for $1 per page.
To protect the historic documents, there will be restrictions on what visitors can use to take notes and rules requiring purses
and briefcases to be stored. Patrons are required to complete a registration form.
