Commissioner's Court Resolution Supports
Free e-Filing Portal for Harris County
Your Support is Critical
Help Us Make a Free Electronic Filing Portal a Reality for Harris County
The Harris County District Clerk’s Office (DCO) continues to promote the value and benefits that
e-filing could deliver to our Court System, our legal community and to our Harris County Taxpayers.
The District Clerk’s office worked closely and diligently with the Civil and Family Court judges
to create new Local Rules that would enable the office to build its own e-filing portal. To that
end, the Harris County Commissioner’s Court passed a resolution in support of those efforts. We
are now very close to the goal of providing fast, easy and free electronic filing a service that
will greatly benefit your law practice and significantly reduce the costs to Harris County taxpayers.
I am happy to announce that if the Texas Supreme Court approves the changes made to Local E-Filing
Rules by the Harris County Civil District Courts, the Harris County District Clerk’s Office will be
able to build a free open e-filing portal enabling documents in Civil cases to be filed electronically
directly to our office. The Family District Courts also anticipate passage of changes to Local Rules
that will allow for a free open portal for filing Family documents in the near future. The move
supporting e-Filing is an effort to further increase judicial efficiency, significantly reduce costs to
Harris County taxpayers, and increase transparency in the judicial system by promoting greater public
access to court documents and records.
Among several benefits to be delivered by the implementation of the new technology,
e-filing will contribute to the reduction of paper printing, cost of processing
and storage, and will help attorneys reduce the number of unnecessary trips they
make to the courthouse.
The free e-filing portal will also speed up the court document filing and
workflow process enabling the Public, Judges, and Attorneys the ability to
view filed documents much quicker than is possible with paper-filed documents.
We need your help to make this dream become a reality! Join me
now in calling for approval to create a free electronic portal that will
greatly benefit Harris County. It is time for your voice to be heard on this issue.
By working together, we can ensure that Harris County will be the first and only
county in Texas with a free, open e-filing portal.
Please sign the District Clerk’s petition urging the Supreme Court of Texas to approve
the new local rules adopted by the District Judges that would allow the creation of a
free electronic portal for filing documents within the county. We encourage everyone to
sign this petition, Attorneys and all other Harris County Citizens. Help us to increase
efficiency, give you greater access to court documents and cut associated filing costs by
signing this petition today!
I hereby join the Harris County District Clerk’s call for the approval of the new local
rules adopted by the Harris County Civil District Judges allowing for Harris County to
build its own Free Electronic Portal for filing Civil and Family documents within the
county.
The creation of a free electronic filing portal would be of great benefit to the citizens
of Harris County, as it will reduce document filing costs, improve judicial efficiency,
and significantly reduce costs to taxpayers.
