Writs of Habeas Corpus

An application for a Writ of Habeas Corpus is filed when a person seeks relief from unlawful detention or imprisonment.

If the application is filed prior to disposition of the case, it is filed in the assigned District Court or County Criminal Court
                    at Law.

If the application is filed after disposition of the case, it is filed in the Post Conviction Writ section and must be filed on the
appropriate form. Post Conviction Writs of Habeas Corpus are
heard by the Court of Criminal Appeals. A copy of the writ clerk's
record (the documents submitted to the Court of Criminal Appeals) is available for viewing online.
